Skramz Jamz Royal 1st gig

So I wanted to do a favour for Sinatra from Nottingham after they very kindly invited us down for a show a few months ago

I promised I’d get them up for a show or two in Scotland to return the favour but then I realised.  SKRAMZ IS DEADZ! Especially in Glasgow, where in all honesty other than a brief flurry of excitement in 2005/2006 when bands like Raein, Circle takes the Square, Ampere, La Quiete and Amanda Woodward  were touring Scotland, has never really embraced it. Too many trend jumpin bams in this town for a genre like skramz to stay remotely popular for any period of time.  Those who were finger pointing to Raein in 2005 will undoubtedly be exploring the intricacies of recording a shite landing on the kitchen floor with layers of delay and reverb pumped through the £2.00 mic bought form cash conz which is of course suspended from the ceiling in a plastic bottle.

Anyway, back to the point.  With the exception of the odd This Is Our Battlefield show, there is nobody interested in arranging skramz shows in this part of the world.  Fair enough.. no bands, nobody into it… hardly a winning formula for a DIY promoter who’s probably gonnay make a loss even if people turn up to it.  With the realisation that I’d promised Sinatra a show and there were no promoters to book it for me I had to do it myself.  We present SKRAMZ JAMZ ROYAL.

Gig 1: 23 January 2009 – O’Henry’s, GLASGOW.

·         Sinatra, (screamo the righteous style, from Nottingham)

·         Mesa Verde, (us wanks)

·         Black Channels, (in your face blastin without real blast beats)

·         Kaddish, (Best screamo/skramz in the UK for my money)

We’ll see how this show goes but if it goes to plan you can expect to see Mesa Verde playing in Glasgow more often with a bunch of bands you’ve not heard of from down south and a scattering of the usual Scottish suspects.  Been really into Sunset Squad so don’t be surprised to see them on every mesa bill for the next good while.  Plus obvz Kaddish, Black Channels etc etc…

Would like to arrange shows quite regularly, however I know the potential problems.  Seen so many people/collectives put a lot more effort and time into shows than I’m ever gonna do and have to eventually call it a day.  In all honesty though, who else is gonnay do it?  (and more to the point, how else are we gonnay entice youngy and steve carlin back out from under their rocks?)

This may be a flash in the pan idea that I’ll regret making even this small commitment to, but after taking a whole lot form “the scene” in the last 4 and a half years and not giving much back,  I think mesa maybe have a wee duty to try and help revive the fuck out it’s lifeless body and this is my attempt at doing so.  NAE FUCKIN MESSIN!!!!
